Vansom.ged201208. Lt. Christopher Birdwood b 12 Mar 1807, was the son of Peter Birdwod, the Agent for the East India Company in Plymouth, Devon. In the 1881 UK census Lydia & Christopher are both living in Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire, Christopher being a retired Major-General. Living with them was their unmarried niece Mary Grant, whose father and mother (Lydia's sister Eliza) died in the siege at Lucknow.
Their eldest son, Sir George Christopher Molesworth Birdwood was educated at Dollar Academy, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, where his Aunt Maria & her husband retired Major Owen Reynolds lived after 1850. Another son, Herbert Mills Birdwood becam e a barrister & High Court Judge in Bombay, Vice Chancellor of Bombay University & a member of the Governing Council of Bombay. Herbert's son, Sir William Riddell Birdwood became a Field Marshal; was C-in-C Anzac Forces at Gallipoli; from 1925 -1930 Commander in Chief of Forces in India and 1930-38 Master of Peterhouse College, Cambridge.
